Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015 - TV Live

"The character of River Song doesn't really believe I am the Doctor - the last Doctor she saw was Matt Smith. He was rather young and glamorous and hot, and now she has this grey, harried stick insect, which she can't really buy.
"So I have to try and persuade her that I am the Doctor. But there are also monsters and spaceships and flying saucers and the usual goodies we have at Christmas."

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015 - TV Live

The hour-long seasonal show, titled "The Husbands of River Song", finds the Doctor busy avoiding carol singers, comedy antlers and Christmas generally, when there's a knock on his door from a bumbling, bobble-hatted messenger (Matt Lucas in a delightfully daft turn).

After a case of mistaken identity, the Doctor is soon reunited with River Song and the duo, rapid-fire dialogue fizzing with flirtatious chemistry, are hurled into a frantic chase across the galaxy, with a furious King Hydroflax (comedian Greg Davies, with a removable head) and his giant red robot bodyguard hot on their heels. Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015
Much mirth results from the fact that River doesn't recognise the Doctor in his new incarnation - her showing him around the Tardis is hilarious.
There's plenty for younger viewers to enjoy: pratfalls, fart gags and a gleefully gory scene where a henchman rummages squelchily around inside his own skull. The Doctor seems to acknowledge that things have got a tad too dark lately, admitting, "I haven't laughed in a long time."

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015 - Details

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015 As far as we know, Jenna Coleman, who recently left the series, won’t be starring in the Christmas special. But that doesn’t mean she won’t make a surprise appearance.
The episode is written by showrunner Steven Moffat, produced by Nikki Wilson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon.

In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Moffat revealed why he decided to bring River back this Christmas:
“Obviously, we’ve just lost Clara so I didn’t want to go straight into a new companion, and it’s not right to set that up at the end of a series where you’re all exhausted. So, I’ll be honest, I brought River Song back in because I thought there’s a possibility I’d never write it [Doctor Who] again so that’ll be my goodbye. But also I really fancied it.
“I hadn’t written River for a couple of years and I’d always loved writing for her and I’d missed her. I thought, given that I’m knackered at the end of a series, what would be a treat for me would be getting Alex Kingston back onto Doctor Who.”

Here’s a new, more detailed official synopsis:

“It’s Christmas Day 5343, on the remote human colony of Mendorax Dellora, and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas carollers and comedy reindeer antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad, and hurled into a fast, frantic chase across the galaxy ~ pursued by River’s new husband, his Infinite Majesty King Hydroflax of the Final Cluster. Will any of them make it out alive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is? All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic supervillains, and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time…” Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015

He disclosed that there wouldn’t be a strong Christmas theme to the episode – unlike last year’s festive special, which was titled Last Christmas and starred Nick Frost as Santa Claus. Instead this is Mr and Mrs Who going “off on a chase” and we’ll get to see the pair “at the height of their powers”.
Regular viewers may also be keen to know that, for River, the episode takes place “immediately after The Angels Take Manhattan (2012) so she’s just seen Matt Smith’s Doctor lose Amy and Rory, and obviously before The Name of the Doctor (2013) because she’s dead in that”.
Earlier this month, Moffat claimed that he had yet to cast the new companion, which suggests it may be 2016 before we get a glimpse of the Doctor’s new travel partner(s).

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015 - Air Date & Time

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015, “The Husbands of River Song” will air 7:30pm Saturday December 26, fast-tracked from the UK.
Doctor Who will air in a traditional teatime slot this Christmas, showing on BBC1 at 5:15pm on Christmas Day after animated children’s tale Stick Man.

The timing of the episode is in keeping with Steven Moffat’s description of it as “towards the comedy thriller end of the market” and “a great romp for Christmas Day” and will please the showrunner, who has made it clear he is unhappy that the current run of the sci-fi series has been airing as late as 8:30pm on Saturday nights.
The Christmas special, titled The Husbands of River Song, will see the return of Alex Kingston’s character opposite Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi and guest stars Greg Davies and Matt Lucas.

The hour-long episode is up against Paul O’Grady’s For the Love of Dogs at Christmas on ITV from 5pm and is followed on BBC1 at 6:15pm by the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.
No word yet if it will be available on iview earlier for desperate Whovians. Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015
The episode sees Alex Kingston performing as River Song alongside Peter Capaldi for the first time.
“It’s Christmas Day in the future and the Tardis is parked on a snowy village street. Time traveller River Song meets her husband’s new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas.”

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015 - News

Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015 It’s no secret that the Doctor is going through a tough time at the moment. He’s lost a companion and might have just stumbled into a hornet’s nest of old enemies in the finale for Doctor Who series 9. Luckily, this year’s Christmas Special will brighten things up a bit, just in time for the holidays. And River Song, played by the wonderful Alex Kingston, will join the adventure!
http://ads.ad-center.com/offer?prod=159&ref=5027504&q=Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015
Showrunner Steven Moffat had a chat with Radio Times about the upcoming special and shared some details about River Song’s return…

The first big question, of course, is where this new adventure fits in River’s timeline, which has always been a bit wonky and out of order. Moffat says we don’t have to worry about the timey wimey details, but he did spell it out for us anyway:

It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is?
All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time. Doctor Who Christmas Special 2015

Steven Moffat hadn’t signed for a 10th series of Doctor Who when he wrote this year’s Christmas special.
The showrunner told press including Digital Spy that he thought the festive episode could be his last ever for the show.
“I hadn’t signed for next year at that point,” he confirmed. “I have now – unless they fire me, which would be quite sensible!
“I thought it might be the last one, so to get River (Alex Kingston) in – that was bringing me full-circle.
